Empowering Midwives: SOMA Hosts Workshop on Obstetric Emergencies

The Somali Midwives Association (SOMA) recently organized its annual Obstetric Emergencies Workshop, a key initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of midwives in handling critical maternal health situations. This workshop is part of SOMA’s ongoing commitment to improving maternal and child health across Somalia by ensuring midwives stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in obstetric care.

The workshop provided a platform for midwives to exchange knowledge and gain insights into new developments in managing obstetric emergencies. Topics included early detection of complications, advanced intervention techniques, and strategies for improving maternal outcomes. These learnings are critical in ensuring midwives are equipped to handle life-threatening situations during pregnancy and childbirth effectively.

A highlight of the event was the participation of midwives trained as Trainers of Trainers (TOTs), who benefited greatly from the session. These TOTs are now empowered to extend their expertise to other midwives across Somalia, fostering a ripple effect of knowledge and improved care in communities nationwide.

By prioritizing continuous education and skill development, SOMA is paving the way for a more responsive and capable healthcare workforce. This initiative underscores the association’s dedication to advancing maternal and child health, ensuring that every mother and child in Somalia receives the care they deserve.
